Pre-workout Supplement Reviews
By Samuel Dybdahl cPT
Ever taken a pre-workout supplement? You might be missing out on some intense workouts.  There have been several studies showing the benefits of caffeine as an ergogenic aid for both resistance and cardiovascular training Here is the Research!  I posted a few of the ones I have tested; I am in favor of Craze and Jack3d I am not sponsored by any of these companies and the reviews are based off my personal experiences.

Spend your money on supplements that count, don't waste your time on some hip marketing.

You don't want to be left High and Dry during those important workouts, and you certainly don't want to buy more expensive supplements that don't have the output of their counterparts, let me give you a hand.... I have tried MANY more supplements than listed, so comment and PM and I will gladly provide a review/try a supplement that you are curious about!

Muscle Pharm's Assault
Assault Muscle Pharm
PROS: This Supplement provides energy a little faster than Craze and Jack3d, and close to the same duration; it doesn't leave you "high and dry."

CONS: It lacks in the focus department, almost as if that workout pain from doing squats is still there, whereas, Jack3d and Craze make your session merely impeccable. Also, LONG CARDIO does ussually give me an upset stomach with Assault; HIIT cardio is the way to go with Assault.

Craze

PROS: This gem will kick in after about 30minutes, slightly faster than some of the other pre-workout formulas, the jittery feeling has not occurred taking Craze, and it provides a favorable “kick” to keep you performing at your peak during HIIT and resistance sessions.  The motivation/boost lasts pretty long, don’t take this to work-out in the evening.

CONS: If you are running or doing cardiovascular training longer than 6 miles it may cause an upset stomach; stick to HIIT with craze.

NO-Xplode

CONS: NO-Xplode has a popular name and is often purchased, and I have noticed people blindly promote this without having trying the alternative pre-workouts.  The taste is relatively bland, and I am least favorable of the Blue Raspberry

Black Powder

PROS:  Has a decent kick and will get you to the gym excited after 30-45minutes.  You do feel a slight boost 15 minutes.  Decent fizzy flavor.

CONS:  If you plan on working out a little longer than 2 hours, Black Powder has left me High and dry when it comes to energy after the peak point.

Ravage
PROS: This stuff kicks in FAST.

CONS: Every time I have taken Ravage, it leaves my face and back with a less than favorable prickly sensation, I am distracted by this in the gym; I know 5 others who have the same issue.

Jack3d

PROS: Fast acting, well sustained, great feeling, good with resistance and long cardio.

CONS: Can’t think of any, ran a triathlon with this, no upset stomach.

Coffee

PROS: Cost efficient, and does give a kick and provide some decent hunger suppression.

CONS: You might find your energy lagging more quickly as opposed to a pre-workout, the caffeine doesn’t provide as ‘sustained’ levels as a more synthetic approach.

Branch Chain Amino Acid Reviews
These supplements can be crucial for those fasted lifting sessions, allows you to not have the increased digestion and insulin response protein will cause.  Though mildly glucongenic, it is appropriate to maintain a beneficial environment during anaerobic respiration. I recommend RECOUP, best price and has an impressive

Xtend
Pros: Orange Dream with ice and a little vanilla whey blended can taste like drinking one of those orange creamsicles you used to have as a kid.
Great for fasted lifting and pretty well priced in comparison to alternatives
Cons: Not the most cost efficient, though it is pretty close.

Recoup

Pros:Excellent product, very well made and the most cost effective if you are on a budget, it can be purchased less expensive than the others

Purple Wraath

Cons: Very pricey, using BCAA commonly might be hard on the wallet for some people purchasing this one.
Pros:Excellent product.

  1. Is it true that some pre-workout supplements could show as positive on a drug test? I have heard a great deal of rumors about jack3d showing up as a stimulants.

  2. Many pre-workouts can in preliminary results show positive for amphetamines (1,3 di), alike a high caffeine consumption. The results can be reviewed, confirming it was not actually an illegal supplement with more precise testing.
